Aamera Siddiqui presents
Log Kya Kahenge, a staged reading
written by Aamera Siddiqui
directed by Suzy Messerole

Aamera Siddiqui co-presented Cloth at Dreamland Arts in February 2017

The Khan family is the perfect family with the perfect eldest daughter (let’s not talk about the younger one). But beneath the veneer of perfection lies a secret they don’t want to confront. Log Kya Kahenge explores mental health stigma, a health care system that isn’t culturally responsive and what happens when “What will people say?” becomes the gauge by which you live your life.

Aamera is a fiscal year 2018 recipient of an Artist Initiative Grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board. This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.

In this dramatic triptych, three terminal cancer patients dwell in separate cottages on a hospital’s grounds. The three are attended and visited by family and close friends: Agnes and her mother Felicity, estranged further by the latter’s dementia; Brian and Beverly, whose marital complications are exacerbated by Brian’s new lover, Mark; and Joe and Maggie, unready for the strain of Joe’s impending death and its effect on their teenager.

Exposed Brick Theatre is dedicated to telling the untold stories through theatre and performance art. We create opportunities for audiences and artists to grow beyond their own personal experience and view their world from new and multiple perspectives. By creating original work that dissects unexamined subject matter, we give voice to silenced issues and populations with the overall intention of fostering an authentic understanding across divides.
