In improvisation we aspire to be truthful and to leap joyfully into ambiguity. Who knows what’s going to happen next? When we ground ourselves in the moment and deal with what is actually happening with humor and curiosity we can learn to thrive in the chaos. This 90-minute workshop will use improvisation techniques to help us embrace uncertainty and collaborate with like-minded souls. Please join Jim Robinson and Dreamland Arts for this pay-what-you-wish Zoom event. You can stay home AND join us at Dreamland. Sounds perfect!

Jim Robinson has a dual career in improvisation and psychology. He’s an alumnus of the Brave New Workshop, the Off-Beat Comedy Club onboard the Disney Magic, and is co-founder of Table Salt Productions, a local theater company dedicated to producing original works in the Twin Cities. Jim has also taught psychology at St. Catherine University and at the University of St. Thomas. He hails from Riverside, California.

These workshops are a fun and engaging way for people who want to break through the Shakespeare mystique to gain confidence and skills. What is he saying? How does that speech tie together?

Each three hour workshop will have three threads:

  • First: Ensemble work, using improvisation and movement to unravel rich and often confusing poetic imagery;
  • Second: Take-away lessons and practice in verse structures commonly found in the plays;
  • Third: Apply those techniques to monologue and scene work.

WHO: Adult actors and non-actors who are interested in exploring Shakespeares rich imagery and language play are encouraged to jump in with a playful heart! Participants are welcome to bring material for coaching and feedback. Dress for movement.

These three workshops are offered as an open, drop in format. Each evening will build on the night before, but are welcoming if you can only come one evening.
